The dress is made of tulle, which has been hand painted, hand embroidered and beaded. Herrera used stones in many shapes and sizes – round, teardrop, oval and rectangular cut stones, tiny cut beads, chalk sequins and mother of pearl palettes are intricately dispersed throughout the design. This particular gown was inspired by the painting by Franz Xavier Winterhalter, an artist often commissioned by royalty in the 1800’s.
